RFMS — Recent form & market expectations system
RFMS is our proprietary form score and the starting point for our research. It can be found on every racecard. If a horse does not have a value because it hasn't run, the horse breeding / heritage section might be beneficial instead.
We analyse recent form and market expectations to rank every runner in a race.
Our scoring method was developed through extensive backtesting across three months, one year, three years and five years. We weren't simply looking for a high win or place rate. We wanted consistency.
Since launching the live site and actively tracking RFMS, the results observed so far have been broadly consistent with the historical win percentages.
One unexpected feature of the live results has been the number of races in which highly ranked RFMS runners have finished together in the leading positions. This has produced a surprising number of successful combinations such as forecasts, reverse forecasts, tricasts and combination tricasts.
RFMS was not designed specifically to identify combination bets, and we are continuing to track this as the live sample grows.
The bigger picture — or zoom right in
You can examine RFMS performance at a high level or zoom in to explore how the rankings perform under particular race conditions, including course, distance, class, race type and more.
Rather than relying on one overall percentage, you can investigate which circumstances produce stronger or weaker results.
The takeaway
We rank every runner. Historically, our Rank 1 selections have won approximately 24–25% of races, with consistent results across different periods.
Ranks 2 and 3 are worth investigating too.
But is a 24–25% win rate enough?
No. Not on its own.
It's a good starting point, but a ranking isn't a betting strategy. The price matters, the race conditions matter, and the other runners matter.
That's where HRBC's other tools come in. Used together, they help you investigate the race more thoroughly and identify opportunities that a form ranking alone might miss.
Next, we bring speed into the equation.
